Another month has gone by...and it's been a busy month with the Christmas holiday, playing in the snow, and lots of family time. Not much is "new" with Daniel but that doesn't mean Daniel hasn't grown...it's just more subtle and sort of you have to be here to know it and mostly it has to do with his language development, which is still as awesome as ever. I've been putting together a list of things we hear Daniel say around the house from time to time...we have so much fun listening to him and it's awesome to notice how he says things better and better each day.
Things Heard Around the House:
Ooooh Toodles- often while Daniel is playing and "solving" a problem just like on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Sometimes we hear him say this at night in his bed before he falls asleep- he's quite chatty at this time! He will also say "Ooooh Mickey, Ooooh Donald"- just naming Mickey characters.
Daniel like that- especially if "that" is something he wants! As of the last couple days, he's also started saying "Daniel have it".
No that- Daniel will say this if he doesn't want something and he doesn't know what to call it, mostly at playtime. This one cracks me up!
Let me out or Let me in- Mostly in fun, if the gate at the top of the stairs is closed, or he's playing in his giant box...only once has he said "Let me out" from his crib after naptime!
Daniel big boy- He will proudly say this, especially when he's walking down the stairs all by himself, which he does now with regularity and quite well, too. He always holds on to the railing or walls. Occasionally he will ask to hold our hands- I cherish these moments since they seem to be fewer and fewer these days!
Where's Daddy? Where's Mommy? Where's Daniel?- he plays this game in the car and gets such a kick out of himself when he does!
First, Then- We use these words often to get Daniel to do one thing first and then the next thing...well, now Daniel will use this strategy with us, too! Too funny! Smart kid.
Strong- Daniel will make muscles and say "strong" when he takes his vitamins. Pretty cute.
Yay, Daniel- when he's proud of himself; he claps for himself, too! I love this...he's always so happy for himself and of course we all clap, too!
Smells good!- when he walks into the kitchen, often before dinner. I get a kick out of this one.
De-li-cious!- he says it with these pauses, too, which is how we've taught the syllables; it's really cute to hear him say it.
Grouchy- this is what he calls Oscar the Grouch, a character he's just become familiar with in the last week. I love it! He is starting to say Oscar Grouch more and more though.
Snuffagus- this is what he calls Snuffalupagus, also a recent introduction. I like this word, too!
18, 14, 6, 9- Daniel will occasionally just break out into random counting. It's quite humorous! He counts to three all the time- 1, 2, fee, 1, 2, fee, and can count higher, sometimes to 9, though he skips 4 and 7. We're practicing! The random numbers are thanks to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (not that they count randomly, just that he hears the numbers on the show all the time).
Daniel's longest sentence yet: Mickey too big fit in bag. 6 words! (Daniel was trying to put his giant Mickey in a paper bag while "shopping"). Daniel has so much to say sometimes and you can see him thinking how to say it and trying to form the words and form the long sentences, sometimes he can't get his words out fast enough! We think it's so adorable.
Other super fun developments-
Daniel is really good at finishing sentences from books- even if he's only read it a couple times. I was FLOORED tonight when we were reading brand new books from Christmas and Daniel could finish almost all of the sentences with words new to him. It was really amazing!
More awesome things we've started hearing around here are the addition of -ing onto words (coming, helping, looking, etc.) and he does this very correctly and on his own, too (no prompting or repeating what I've said- this is all on his own); and the word "can't" (Daniel can't reach, Potato Head can't walk)- this is also all on his own with amazing accuracy, too. I simply can't believe my son is talking with such an amazing vocabulary as this already!
I will also proudly say that Daniel knows most of the letters of the alphabet, if not the letter names, he definitely knows what each letter is for (a for apple, b for Uncle Brian, etc.). I keep trying to get a video of us going through the alphabet, but, well, two year olds just don't have huge attention spans!
