This summer, we decided to try growing pumpkins in our garden. Just those small pie pumpkins and we told ourselves that we'd be happy if we got just a couple of them. Well, the pumpkins sort of took over our garden! (Hey, we're new at this!) I called it our Pumpkin Forest. In the end, we actually got 6 pumpkins! And they were still coming in, too, by Halloween, but not in time to really grow as November and cold weather approached.
Ben worked hard over the weekend to try his hand at using them to make pumpkin pie. It was a lot of work, but the pie turned out really good, different, but still pretty good. We have enough to make another one for Thanksgiving, too!
And here's a really funny story about the pie...Sunday night we went to Ben's parents for dinner as usual and we shared the pie with them there. Daniel got a really small slice and of course gobbled it right up. When asked if he wanted more, he clearly and very confidently said "SURE!" and handed his plate right over. We cracked up! Who's this little dude of mine saying "sure"?? We'd never heard him say that before! Ben said he wished we had that on video...it really was to die for. For some reason, to me, it made Daniel sound so grown up. Gotta love it though!
