Time for another haircut! We took Daniel to KidSnips yesterday to get his haircut and- WOW- look how handsome he is! Daniel was such a good boy during the whole haircut. He loved the police car he got to sit in. And the balloon he got to bring home was a huge hit. Daniel carried that balloon all around the house for quite some time after we got home. Me- I just couldn't stop staring at my handsome little boy.

Daniel and a big Lion
Ben took the afternoon off today so we could go the zoo and check out the sneak peek of the new bear exhibit there. (The sneak peek was for members only this week- a nice perk!) We had beautiful weather and GREAT timing- we got there just as all the school groups were leaving. So aside from the bear exhibit, the zoo was very quiet and we had a wonderful couple hours there. Daniel knows many animal sounds now, so it's very cute to go around and see those animals and ask him what sound they make. He also loves walking around any chance he gets and it's lots of fun to play with the exhibits, too. He's such a good boy and so delighted to be there, we just really enjoy our time with him at the zoo. Thanks, Daddy, for taking time off for a wonderful zoo visit!
PS- You can add "zoo" to Daniel's list of words!
Park Adventures
So I know we have the whole summer ahead of us to explore parks, but we've been having fun checking out 2 new parks this week. (I will say it's nice to do this while everybody is still in school- the parks aren't too busy this way!) There's a whole other subdivision across the street from ours and there are two parks over there- so Daniel and I decided to venture over there and check them out. These were pretty cool parks, too. Plus, we ran into a lot of fun, young kids there, which Daniel totally enjoyed. He loved watching the big kids. At the first park, we found a stray basketball, which we adopted for our visit and that was pretty much the only thing Daniel was interested in. Forget the slides and steps and bridges and kids playing ice cream store at the counters. It was all about the ball. So when we went to the second park, Daniel fully expected a ball, I think. He kept saying ball, ball, and asking where it was and looking for it. Too funny.
I still get very nervous around the slides and steps as they go higher, so I'm one of those moms who follows her kid everywhere- rightfully so, I think. When Daniel gets more steady and patient and less impulsive (which will be when? he's a toddler after all!), then I'll feel better, I think, I hope-or perhaps this feeling never goes away, does it? Still, we had a ton of fun and only ended up with two scraped knees (courtesy of the curb and sidewalk around the parks- my poor guy!). We even capped off our wonderful day today by taking Daddy to the park with us, too- Daniel clapped the whole way down the slide with Daddy (look at that picture closely- you can see him clapping) and he was delighted to have us both there to play.
Anyway, I hope to even take a drive around town to check out other parks, too. Something different, something to do. Looking forward to it!

Tree-mendous Fun!
Where is Daniel??
Peek-a-Boo!
Daniel hugs the tree, stands on tippy toes, and says, "Up, up!"
Is tree-climbing innate? Daniel has NEVER seen anybody climb a tree as far as I know... so how does he know climbing the tree is the thing to do? I got a kick out of that! And no, we didn't climb the tree. That's an adventure for another day!
Let's Go to the Park!
Daniel loves to go the park lately! It's a good thing we have several parks close by us that we can walk to easily. He actually tells us when wants to go for a "wa" (walk) in the "ss" (stroller) and go the "pa" (park)- he puts these words together with pointing at (and practically climbing into, I might add) the stroller. It's so cute. He sure gets the message across! "Pa" for park is another new word of Daniel's and it's a frequent one around here now.
Fun in the Front Yard
Daniel practices with a real watering can.
Fun with a fire truck
Daniel helps Daddy scoop up some stray rocks...
...And then helps dump the rocks!
Daniel signed for more each time they dumped them!

Daniel had lots of fun pushing the empty buckets down the driveway
Daniel helps Daddy sweep up the sidewalk.
He even went and got his own broom!

After planting his tree, Daddy and Daniel got right to work in the front yard, sweeping, mowing, scooping up rocks and dumping them, and of course having fun with toys, tools, and buckets. Daniel loves hanging out with his Daddy doing just about anything! It's so cute to watch him chasing after his Daddy, wanting to help and join the fun.
Another note about the first picture- I loved how Daniel's perception of the watering can was that he needed to dump it upside down (we all know he loves to dump things now). I was trying to show him how we just tip it- we still need some practice with that of course. The cute part is that now, when he sees the watering can, he calls it "tip, tip." Love it.
A Tree of His Very Own
Daniel gets the pot ready for his tree
Daniel puts his tree in the pot
Daniel helps Daddy dump more dirt around his tree
Daniel helps Mommy give the tree a drink
Daniel's special tree!
Grandma Cheryl gave Daniel a tree of his very own (it's a Blue Spruce) and today we planted it. Daniel got to help with every part of the process and he loved it. We put it in a pot for now, since we're getting some landscaping put in soon and we want to see how everything looks after that so we know where this tree can go later. And the tree is so small anyway, we want to protect it from the lawnmower! We're excited to watch it grow!
Messy, Dirty Fun in the Yard
What a strong boy, carrying TWO (empty) buckets!
Splashing in puddles on our deck with Grandma!
Helping Grandma hold up a board
Digging in the dirt
Daniel checks out a worm- icky!
After he touched this one, he stayed away from the rest of them!
After he touched this one, he stayed away from the rest of them!
More fun digging in the dirt
Daddy and Grandpa Larry were hard at work in our yard yesterday putting up the lattice around the base of our deck, and of course Daniel was right there helping them out! He sure got messy and didn't mind a bit. It was a great time to have fun, explore the dirt, check out the worms (with Grandpa's help- and no, Daniel was not too interested in them- thank goodness!!), splash in puddles (with Grandma's encouragement- Daniel loved this!), and watch and help "Pa" and Daddy.
PS- Don't mind the clashing shoes Daniel is wearing! He picked them out, actually. And quite frankly, I didn't mind because they're a little small already and they cost all of two bucks, so they're the perfect muddy day shoes really!
