A Fantastic Fall Weekend in U.P. Michigan

This past Columbus Day weekend, we drove up to U.P. Michigan with Daniel's Grandma Mary Kay and Grandpa Larry. The fall colors were on full display up there, so it was beautiful, but it was also quite cold. Daniel was bundled up in his warm sweater anytime we went outside. We even saw snow the morning we left. We had a wonderful weekend of relaxing and visiting Daniel's Great-Grandma Ann and his Great Aunt and Great Uncle, too. Daniel was great the whole weekend! We couldn't be more proud of him. He napped very little on the way up, but managed just fine with us entertaining him, hardly ever getting fussy. Same with the way down- very little fussing (just at the very end- when he decided he'd had enough of his car seat- who could blame him?!)- with a two hour nap and another cat nap, and lots of playing and even a little entertainment courtesy of Snow White on DVD (which worked for about 5 minutes- but he was so captivated and so excited for a few minutes there; it was so cute). Daniel was great at Grandma Ann's, and at Aunt Susie and Uncle Mike's house. He was playful and not too shy. He sure loved exploring Grandma's house and had a ball walking his car around and playing with his toys. He did a great job eating all weekend, too, and even got to try some new foods. He slept as well as he sleeps at home, and even took a two hour nap at Grandma's. We were so impressed with our little guy!

Funny story of the weekend: I loved watching Daniel work to try to fall asleep in our hotel room the first night. He, of course, was A) not thrilled at having to go to bed and B) not thrilled to be in a different bed (his pack & play), and sure let us know with hard crying for about ten minutes. But then, the funny part began- after he finally calmed down, sucked his thumb, played with his lion, he started clapping, saying Bye! (perhaps he was trying to say bye to this bed), doing headstands, crawling, and just having fun, until he wiped himself out and literally clonked out. I was trying so hard not to laugh during all of this playing, it was just so funny to watch and listen to. He was sure working hard- whether to stay up or fall asleep, who knows, but sleep won, thank goodness! Check out the first picture- with the butt in the air, that's how he finally fell asleep. Too cute!

All in all, we had a great weekend getaway!
