We've had a pretty snowy, windy, COLD week around here this past week...so it's been nice to hunker down and stay cozy and warm at home most days. I've confessed my love for babies in fleece before, and the fleece outfits on my little guy this week are no exception! There's Daniel with his new "bopping" penguin (and that one hand in a thinking/concentrating fist again). And there he is with his lawnmower again, too. In the bottom picture Daniel is carrying around my boots- we know he loves to play with our shoes- and the boots were a hit too. Especially putting things in them. We have to check before putting our feet in now!
I've mentioned that Daniel walks a lot lately...but I still can't get over the fact that he really walks all the time now! It's so fun to watch- I never tire of watching my little guy walk and play. Someone said yesterday he looks like a wind-up toy- because he takes such small steps so it looks like he scoots. Very cute. We rarely see him crawl now. And he's really a good walker, too. It's just amazing to me how quickly Daniel caught on to the whole walking thing once he started a few weeks ago and really, how suddenly he went from crawling to walking. There was not really any in-between at all- just poof, he walks everywhere all day long every day!
We're also excited to say that Daniel is getting bigger! We went back to the endocrinologist again this week. Daniel weighed 17 lbs 3 oz. and he's 27 1/2 inches tall now. These are both increases from our last measurements a month and two months ago. The doctor was very pleased with this gain, and simply wants to keep watching him, rather than ordering any more serious tests and wasting our money at this point. She says if, at some point, we truly see no improvement in height or weight, then we'll start doing some other tests to determine if there truly is a growth hormone deficiency...but at this point, she thinks he looks great (she even said "this is what's called normal- this is what normal looks like"- quite reassuring for us!), and she wants to just watch him and see what the pattern is. So, we go back in three months and do more bloodwork then to check his liver functions and his growth hormone levels again. We're feeling pretty good about all this. Our instincts are that Daniel is doing great, and we hope that we continue to see improvement. He may take a while to catch up on the "percentile" chart, but if he grows at his own pace, then we're happy. He's really doing great with everything else and he's such a happy boy. Our next pediatrician appointment is in one month, for his 15 month well-visit and we'll get another weight and height benchmark then, too. We'll keep you posted!
PS- I have to mention how cute it was that they actually took Daniel's blood pressure at the doctor's the other day. He'd never had that done before and his arms are just so little- it was pretty funny, actually. The nurse gave Daniel her measuring tape, after measuring his head, and he was delighted with that (had the biggest smile on his face!) and he really didn't even notice what she was doing. Anyway, I just got a kick out of that.
